ABOUT THE BLOOMFIELD
FAMILY FOUNDATION

The Bloomfield Family Foundation (2000) is a private, family-led philanthropic organization.  Founded by Margery Bloomfield (1925-2017), the BFF now operates through the volunteer work of Marge’s children and grandchildren.  While originally conceived primarily as a resource for arts initiatives in Oregon, the Foundation has since developed partnerships with select organizations around the United States in our three mission areas of education, arts and humanities, and public health. Within these areas, the BFF prizes holistic programming that emphasizes local engagement with underserved communities, and invests in the future of their leadership.

 

The Foundation honors its relationships with many non-profits that have collectively made a widespread and intentional impact. Throughout almost 25 years of operation we have contributed to a broad spectrum of initiatives, including:

• Constructing a yurt to house the early-childhood education program at Wôpanâak Language Reclamation Project, in the traditional homeland of the Mashpee Wampanoag. (Massachusetts)

• Developing a culturally-specific, Spanish-language Community Health Worker training curriculum, during the COVID-19 pandemic (Centro Latino Americano, rural Oregon)

• Supporting the operations of Soul Fire Farm (upper New York state):  “an Afro-Indigenous centered community farm committed to uprooting racism and seeding sovereignty in the food system.”

• A long-term partnership with an urban safe space for homeless youth, focusing on art and music for creative self-expression and healing, and supporting advocacy (p:ear mentor, Portland, Oregon).

• Funding affirming mental-health services for LGBTQIA+ adults at Prism Health/ Cascade AIDS Project (Portland, Oregon)

• A multi-year partnership with Lighthouse Writers Workshop, to create and evaluate an outreach writing program for underserved youth. (Denver, Colorado)
